PPG Aerospace PR-1440 B-1/2 AMS-S-8802 / MIL-S-8802 Type 2 Class B1/2 Fuel Tank Sealant
The PPG PR-1440 Class B is a high-solids, manganese dioxide-cured polysulfide compound engineered to function as the primary fillet sealant for integral fuel tank structures. As a Type 2, Class B compound, it provides the robust, fuel-resistant barrier required by major military and commercial aerospace platforms, ensuring structural integrity and leak prevention across a challenging operational spectrum. This material is formulated as a thixotropic, non-sag paste (Class B), designed to be applied in substantial fillets and beads without slumping, even on vertical or overhead surfaces. It delivers the necessary elongation and strength to withstand the differential expansion and contraction of airframe structures.
The PR-1440 Class B sealant is indispensable for structural sealing applications:
- Fillet Sealing: Primarily used to create triangular fillet beads along seams, joint overlaps, and interfaces inside the fuel tank, forming the critical primary barrier against leaks.
- Structural Gaps and Voids: Ideal for filling larger structural gaps and voids where a thicker, non-flowing material is necessary to maintain a seal during cure.
- MRO and Production: Available in various work-life versions (e.g., B-2 for typical line work or B-4 for complex, large-area sealing) to optimize workflow and reduce material waste.
Interchangeable with Flamemaster: CS-3204B1/2
